    Hi,

Can you somebody tell me if i have the right idea about owning a utility club and the reason behind it and why i should have one.

1- It's a better club than a 3-4-5 iron out of the rough
2- It's a better club than a 3-4-5 iron also from the fairway
3- Can it be used as a chipper around the green? I normally use a 8iron(chipping around the green) and i'm okay with it but could be alot better.

    any idea/suggestion/advice/comments r welcome.

Is it better than a 3-4-5 iron?

Well that depends and all I can say is my experience.

I certainly find them easier out of the rough than a 3 or 4 iron.

Off the fairway I think they are easier to hit than a 3 or 4 iron.

But if you were a good iron player then you wouldn't be asking the question.

Yes they can be used as a chipper but I'd rather use an 8 iron.

I got my first one this spring and I was like  on how easy it is to hit
    - rough
    - fairway

I would recommend in getting one

I would like to think i'm quite good with the irons from 170-50 yards but i struggle sometime with 4-5 on fairways for long par4s.

To answer your first question, they are good out of the rough. Secondly, they are good from the fairway too.
Chipping around the green? Its going to be longer than a putter, so it may require a bit of practice on your part as it will be a harder club to control.
Some shops are selling the Ping G10 hybrid at the moment for about 160 Euro, with the UST V2 Hi Launch shaft.
Its a peach of a shaft, very stable and nice weight. The regular flex is for a swing of between 85 and 95 mph. I'm playing off 8, and use the regular. It gives me a greater degree of forgiveness during my off days.
    Hope this helps.

i ditched my 2 and 3 iron for a 19deg titleist & a 21deg taylor made utility. thyere both much easier to hit, especially from the rough, and for placement on short par 4s. ive now got 4 'woods' in my bag when there was a time i only had one (driver).

I've got a utility instead of my 4 iron and am looking for one to replace my 3.

Its 23 Degrees, and I get about 210 yards with it. I have the standard V2 hybrid shaft, it gives a slightly lower flight.
The hi launch gives a little higher flight. The ball doesn't balloon with the Standard V2 hybrid shaft.
There are also two tip sizes, a 0.335 and a 0.370. The 0.335 is approx 72 grams, while the 0.370 is about 84 grams in weight.

I dont carry a 3 or 4 Iron....have replaced them with cobra bafflers with 20 and 23 degs of loft. I personally find them super and would highly recommend them. As for chipping with them.......I have tried it and its not for me. I found it too hard to feel in control with the longer shaft. One shot that I have used them for is the very rare time the ball sits against the collar of longer grass around the green where they work very well.:)
