    Hi,

Im pritty new to golf so be gentle,

My question is how much can your handicap be cut at any given time. Is there a max that a person can be cut.

Like if you played in a comp and had an unreal game, got a great score & won - could your hanidcap be cut by say 5 or 6 or even 10?

    Cheers,

    Alan

Depends on the SSS score of your club.

For example if your club have a SSS of 36 points and you got 40 points. For every points you got more than SSS, you mulitipe it by 0.3 which will work out as ( 40-36 = 4points x 0.3 = 1.2 )

So if you started at 24, you will now be 22.8!

However if you got less than 31-36 points, your handicap will be added on by 0.1.

Now i'm pretty much like you, not 100% certain that this is correct or it might be correct therabout!

So if i'm wrong here guys, go easy on me!!!:o

How much you get cut depends on what handicap category you are in to start with. Low handicappers up to 5 are category 1 and they get cut by .1 for every shot the beat the competition scratch score (CSS) by. Category 2 drop by .2 per shot, Cat3 by .3 and Cat4 by .4
All categories increase by .1 for a bad round

http://www.congu.com/template2.asp?pid=51&parent=33&parent2=51 has all the exact details.
CSS is calculated based on the conditions and the scoring of the day and is a moveable feast. Some courses have a par of 72, A standard scratch score of 73 (what a scratch golfer should in theory score on a normal summer day) but the CSS can range higher or lower by a couple of shots. You can read about it on that link too if you really want. CSS is what your score is measured against. You can have a round a couple under your handicap on a tough day and get cut a lot for it. On a calm summer when the rough has just been cut maybe you are expected to beat your handicap and wouldn't get cut for the same nett score.
Also, there are buffer zones (different for different categories) which if you score within your handicap is left alone.

All sounds complicated but you get used to it pretty quickly. The CSS is an unknown though until it is calculated after all scores are in.
