Hi I was wondering if ye could help me!

I have been thinking of a business idea for ages but due to college and final exams I haven't thought about it too much lately but I really want to set up this business, I really feel that their is a niche in th market. Now I have recently found out that someone has set up a similar business to the one I have been thinking about in a town about 2 hours away from me and is doing very well.

So I was thinking of meeting the owner and asking them about how they started and where the sourced their assets/goods etc as I am beginning to write up my business plan now.....but I don't know if that's the done thing? Is it a bit inappropriate? Would they think I was just "copying" them? If they had thought about expanding they might not want me opening the business?

I was wondering what do people think about me asking them or would current business owners mind me approaching them asking them where they sourced their goods or would they prefer not to share that info?

    Thanks!

Of course, give it a go.

If that doesn't work, go on the internet and find someone. There IS someone online who can help you and will.*

*give you a few pointers etc

However, if it's a case of Tacit knowledge, then you'll just have to figure it out yourself.

If it's a branded product, surely you know the info already. If it's not branded i.e. manufactured by design/custom made then that should be very easy to find online and I'm not talking about Alibaba.com exclusively, there is so much info out there.
