    in the symbols section when typing a text or mail i think you may have to go down one page, there definitely is a Euro symbol option.

    on the keyboard press the .?123 button and then press #+= button.

    On the keyboard, tap .?123 in the bottom left corner to bring up the number/symbol page

    On this tap the grey button above ABC in the same bottom left position with #+= on it. The € symbol is on the middle line, centre right.

    Thanks very much, the symbols screen - hadn't realised that that little key in the numeric keypad was for symbols, or at least I had, but hadn't thought of it for the euro.
