Vaio's can be really painful with the amount of crap Sony load on them, use it a bit and see what features you actually use and remove or prevent the rest from loading. You many find that a lot of the software is loading into memory and sitting there doing nothing unless you use a specific feature in which case you may find there is an option somewhere to prevent that software loading at startup? That could give you the best of both worlds keep all Sony's software but only load it when you need it, would be like telling MSN, RealPlayer, Quicktime etc not to load at startup, it doesn't mean they won't run just that they won't be taking up resourses untill you need use them.

btw don't forget to make the Sony backup DVD's ;)

I did make the set DVD's!! :) I also installed Ccleaner and stopped most programms from starting up, made it a lot quicker to start up. Sony really puts on a lot!! also installed spybot S&D.

I was just wondering that when I through everything sony off will media player still play avi and divx files etc.?

what did other vaio owners remove?

Just tooo many users don't make the DVD's.

Sorry I can't remember the software I actually removed on the last couple of Sony's I did. I can remember that I removed any software that wasn't required for a feature built into the Vaio AND I dumped the 90day trial of the AV.

If you open tools then options then file types in Windows media player you can set it up to play whatever file types you like I always load ffdshow to get divx avi's to play. Sonner or later if you upgrade Windows Media Player it will probablay ask you if you want to use it as the default media player. But for a lot of files inc dixv I use VLC media player which seems play anything I throw at it.

You might want to keep whatever software sony gives you for playing video's again can't remember what you get but thats a specialism I leave to a dedicated player and not WMP or VLC.
