apparently Limerick will be 3g by the end of 2009, maybe.

will this device work in a non-3g area at EDGE speeds? (I can get EDGE where I live in Co. Clare on my meteor phone)

Yes. Virtually all decent 3G/GSM phones/Modems do EDGE and (HSDPA or HSPA)
