    Hey Folks,

My dad has an 03 1.9 diesel kangoo van. Every now and then (almost every day) he is driving along and the van chugs for a while and the speedo stops working altogether. He has had it at the local mechanics a couple of times over the last couple of weeks but to no avail - they keep trying different things but have not been able to fix the issue so far.

Anyone have any ideas? Ive tried searching the net but no joy so any help here appreciated.

    Thanks.

There was a bunch around 01 or 02 ( 1.9D version ) that had dicky EGR valves. Lots of the post vans suffered from this erratic tick over. Does it by and large tick over fine with a little miss fire every 5 or 6 seconds?

The fact that the speedo stops working would suggest an electrical problem.

there is a number of causes and solutions for this.

When it happens at night does the headlights go, do wipers work as it happens?

It could be a faulty fuseboard, a loose main fuse, poor earth connection. It is hard to diagnose over the net really.

I will have to have a run in it to test it out myself to find out - not sure if it is miss firing as often as that, dont think so.

I know the mechanic did clean out the EGR valves but this hasnt fixed the issue. Very strange that the speedo stops working.

I will find out about the wiper/lights etc too.

    Thanks for your help guys.

It shouldn't be anything too serious with the old 1.9. The 1.5 dci is supposed to be an awful ball of sh!te in comparison.
