I recently bought a vintage tractor that has never been registered, can anyone tell me how I go about registering the same as i am in the process of restoring and getting it ready for a tractor run in august.

Can I buy an old reg or will it be reg as new , ie 09 even though it was originally bought in 1974 as the numbers on it tell me all about it.

Seeing as it is more than 30 years old you should be able to get a ZV plate for it.

Maybe the classic car guys might no more, one of them might see this, if not I'll drop them a pm.

I rang my local vehical registration office (not motor tax office) Two people came out form the office to my house and looked at the tractor, took serial number and make model etc.... Then I had to go to a MF dealer with a photo of a tractor and get a letter confirming its age. Then went into the VRO with all the details of it and the letter from the dealer, filled out a form, and got a new registration. Was allowed to choose between 63-KE-### or ZV ####

I was re registering it, as no reg number could be traced and all the documents were lost when I bought it. Same as you really, as I was starting from scratch. Cost $50, well euro, but my keyboard doesn't have that sign

Friends of mine have had tractors never registered and went through the same process as me.

Interesting that it would get a 63 or ZV even though it was never reg'd before.

I thought the 63 type reg was binned in favour of the ZV, interesting.

No,you can get either, but you can change a 63 to ZV if you want after, not the other way round..
I have it on good authority that what MrFoxman360 is right about the age related plate.Interesting to know!

Just wondering...if you bought the tractor with no documentation...how do the police / VR office know that you did not steal the tractor?

I am about to buy a tractor, 1980, with all the documentation and previous owner names lost throughout the years..

Although i know the tractor is not stolen, how do i know i wont have difficulty getting it registered in my own name, considering the fact that we do not have details of the person who last had his name on the register. there are plates on the tractor.

    advice much appreciated.

    thanks,
    Matt

Well your case is slightly different seens as the tractor is currently registered and has a number, so you are essentially looking for a new tax cert....

If they have the number it is easy for them to run a check on it, so I dont think you will have any problem, all this is at the descretion of the VRO, and when your dealing with a 30 year old tractor they're not going to mind

    Hello.

I am new to Boards so im not sure if this topic is relevabt here.. Any way I have a Ferguson FE 35. its a 4 cylinder diesel engine. I hope to restore it to working condition in the near future. Are parts easily available for such a model and would they be the same as standard 35's? Where would you get an origional catalogue for the FE35.? Would parts be dear? The tractor bosy work is grey and tinwork is red but I think it was sprayed at some stage as there is sign of the origional copper belly and grey tinwork. Thank you

If you are registering the tractor in Wexford you would need to contact the VRO in Rosslare.

VRO in Naas Co. Kildare is 045 880508 but you have to go the VRO in the county where you are going to register it.
