    Hi,
I'm having a problem playing mp3's in any media player. I have installed the restricted extras (which i presume has the required codecs).
However, I can play the mp3 if I hover over the mp3's icon. I can also hear the test sound perfectly in System > Preferences > Sounds.
I have installed the correct drivers for my soundblaster sound card.
Sound from Flash movies in my browser also works fine. Amarok is the media player I'm currently trying to use. Anyone have any ideas on what I'm missing here?
I'm really stumped on this one!
    Thanks,
    Brian

Try using PulseAudio Sound playback if this is available. I had similar issues and moving from Alsa to Pulse sorted it out for me. Google it as I followed a thread but never saved it unfortunately.

Finally got it sorted. Followed suggestions in this post. I deactivated my sound drivers while doing it (don't know if that made a difference)
