How many insecure programs are on your PC right now?

Secunia (based in Copenhagen) provide a "Windowsupdate" type service that checks most non-Microsoft software installed on your PC for security vulnerabilities. There are new versions Flash, Acrobat reader, and many other programs virtually every other week to fix security vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities frequently involve serious weaknesses - such as remote code execution and similar. eg the current "secure" version of Acrobat is 9.1.2 - you might want to check which version is installed on your machine.... Adobe is very dozy alerting users to new versions....!

Scan your PC now online : http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/

They have a free (for personal use) software download to do this scanning on a regular basis, with non-free versions for commercial environments.

excellent utility, without it managing non-microsoft updates would be a complete nightmare, and it knows about a lot of open source apps too

one tip , if you have backed up an old PC you can tell it not to scan those folders for false alarms in the older folders you don't use anymore

still not remotely close to the way linux will alert you to updates on every app ;)
