You'll find lots of info on whey protein over on the Supplements thread on the Fitness forum here though I appreciate you may be posting here to get cycling-specific input.

I use Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein as a supplement to help with weight loss. I use it mainly when I'm in work and heading directly to the gym and haven't had planned ahead to have a healthy snack (normally a fruit salad with probiotic yoghurt and some nuts) before I go. So I take it maybe twice a week instead of hitting the vending machine for a snack, so in that way it helps with weight loss as it's less calories than the likely easily accessible alternatives.

I use a 4:1 carbs:protein energy drink (HiViz I think) during some training rides and after some rides. Not religious about taking the stuff, use it more when I've worked hard and feel I need it.
