Newly qualified Primary Teacher (UK)...what now?

    Hi,
My question if for Primary Teachers out there and in particular, those qualified outside the state. Myself and a few Irish friends have just returned to the country after completing our PGDE (Primary) in Scotland. We're wondering what the procedure should be for us now? In Scotland, you register with the Teaching Council and they assign you a Probation Year (1 year full-time gauranteed). I understand that here, we find our own work from the beginning. So how does the Probation Year work? Say I get a period of 2 months work, or 4, 6 etc. Can I have my inspector visits during temporary positions like this? Or must I find a full years work before I can have inspector visits?
Also, do I need to register with the Teaching Council now or when I (hopefully!) find some work in September?
Really hoping to hear from teachers that qualified in UK and came back to Ireland to work.
    Thanks

Hi KateF! I finished my PGDE in June as well and I think I should have opted to do the probation year in Scotland. I have applied for recognition from the Teaching Council of Ireland, and I hoped to start my Dip when I got a full time job here. But, of course, as you are aware I'm sure there doesn't seem to be any hope of getting long term work with the huge numbers of applicants!

I'm not sure if you need a full year to do the probation. In England, you can do induction once you're in the same school continuously for a 6 week period ( I think).
