Got a call from Dell...

    Hi, I got a call from Dell offering to upgrade my warranty.

    The guy on the phone was Indian as are most of the Dell support guys and had all my computer and sales info.

    He offered an extension of my warrant which has recently expired but the payment methods were credit card or cheque. Credit Card to be given over the phone.

    Now I feel very uncomfortable giving my credit card details to someone who called me and the number he gave me to call him back is not listed on the dell site, though other numbers like it are.
    Is this Dell standard practice or should I be highly suspicious?

    If you really want the extended warranty, you call Dell. Tell them about this guy and ask for confo that he is one of theirs. Then give the card number, but not before. The call must be initiated by you.

    Dells call centres are in India.
    Calling any of the Irish numbers on their site will simply re-direct you to one of these gentlemen.
    Also, as un-proffesional as it seems, they do ask for CC info over the phone.
    I found them to be a pain in the rocks to deal with.

    But, that doesn't rule out the possibility that some geezer is trying to scam you.
