This is out there now but not as good as Make Another World..
PEB is like their almost trying to become accessible, like their looking for a new crowd/reord deal..which they are I suppose but it's a strange record for them

Did you pre-order your album by any chance?

    I haven't received mine yet :(

    Hi all,

So finally after a lengthy stay in the Czech Republic the new album has arrived at our rehearsal space in Scotland. I haven’t seen the finished copy yet but Colin assures me it’s looking very nice indeed. All that remains to be done is pack the envelopes and post them off, we’ll spend tomorrow and Wednesday doing this and should have them in the post to you on Thursday.

Again thanks so much for your patience, we really couldn’t have anticipated that it would take this long but I think it’ll be well worth the wait.

    Gareth…

    Must be in the post.....

Yeah, 100 Broken Windows was their pinnacle; some pinnacle mind you.

The 4 singles off '100 Broken Windows' were class but as a whole, I prefered 'The Remote Part'

Got my pre-order album and it looks fantastic. The special poster inside contains the names of all those who pre-ordered so mine is nicely there :D

The album itself could probably be best described as 'safe'. It's nothing revolutionary but is solid all the same. The opening track 'Younger Than America' is excellent, and is only topped as the best song on the album by the pre-order bonus track 'No Wiser' which is fantastic.

There are some similarities between the songs and Roddy's recent solo work, and 'Take Me Back To The Islands' is a perfect example as it features Heidi Talbot and John McClusker who were both involved in the recent 'Before The Ruin' record.

I think older Idlewild fans will be further discouraged by the more folky road the band have gone down, and the album probably won't get them much of a new following, but it's a decent listen and worth picking up.

They used to be my favourite band, when I was a little younger, and a little more depressed. I'll be very interested to hear this 'folkier' direction they've gone in.

I also preferred 'The Remote Part'

New album, does this mean they'll be with us again soon anybody know?

I've listened to each album once since Captain and Hope is Important (imo their masterpiece) and every single one of them got sold off afterwards. I keep hoping for a return to their rocky roots but I guess now its time to finally give up on them. I think I'll just plain avoid this one if its more folky, I always considered Roddys voice better for faster tracks.

Have only given the new album one listen so far, but I quite like it. More mellow, or folky as someone described, but still worth a listen :)

Why on earth would you listen to an album just once? I just don't understand that, I could never decide whether I like an album on one listen. I've thought many albums were rubbish when I first listened to them and ended up loving them.

I think there are two types of Idlewild fan out there, those who got into them through Captain and Hope Is Important, and those who became fans through 100 Broken Windows and The Remote Part. The former will probably never like another Idlewild album again. I belong to the later, I became a fan through 100 Broken Windows, and I think that will always be my favourite album. I've always thought The Remote Part was overrated, though still a great album. I wouldn't listen to it any more than Warnings/Promises or Make Another World though. Personally, I think Hope Is Important is mostly wannabe American punk crap apart from a few tracks. Using the word masterpiece and Hope Is Important in the same sentence is laughable to me. Anyway, there you go.

Anyway, I'm very pleasantly surprised by the new album. There are some great melodies on it and some of their strongest songwriting. The opening three songs in particular are quality.
I think the folk thing is being overplayed slightly people, its only on a couple of songs, in particular Take Me Back To The Islands.

After my early disappointment at the album I decided not to treat it as an Idlewild album and just take it as just another record, and now I've been playing it non stop! I guess my expectations were for songs like 'No Emotion' and 'Ghost In The Arcade' from 'Make Your World' to be the path that was followed and was a bit gutted when that wasn't the case.

However, as a stand alone album it is pretty damn good and gets better with every listen.
