Will O2 replace my iPhone?

The bottom left corner (near the speaker) is coming apart. The black back is separating from the chrome bezel. I also have a large speck of dust in the middle of the screen.

Will O2 replace my phone or will it be a waisted trip? The phone is only 4 weeks old.

Also is it true that in Ireland we don't have a Genius Bar?

If its only 4 weeks old and hasnt been dropped etc it should be within warranty. Return it to the O2 store you purchased it.

In Ireland we dont have a Genius Bar but we have plenty of bars with people who think there geniuses!

There is one in the Apple store in Belfast if you are willing to travel.

Thanks. The phone was bought online, so can I just go into any shop?

Will they want to send it off for repair? or will they exchange on the spot.

If exchange will it be a new one or a referb unit?

What happens with all my stuff on the phone?

Back it up with itunes before you take it back to them.

They will probably send it back to Apple for you. you might be as well to call
Apple care yourself (1850 946 191) and ask them what the best course of action is. The only benefit I can see going through 02 is that they will give you a replacement phone, but the overall turn around time will be longer as you will have to go back into them and collect it when apple send it back to them.

I'm currently waiting on my one to come back, I have a crack on the lower back near the dock connector that has been there since it was a week old and the earpiece is rattling a bit, they posted out a box and sent UPS to collect it on Friday hopefully I'll have it back by the end of the wek.

Edit: Make sure you back it up (sync) with iTunes as it will be fully reset when you get it back.

Yep, but should I then delete everything or it should be alright?

I see thanks. The phone is only 4 weeks old and is a fault that is easily seen. Will they not just swap it over?

Also why no genius bar in Ireland? at least in Dublin, god we always get screwed over in Ireland.

I read a UK forum and in the iPhone section they talk about the genius bar and how they just make an appointment, the looks at the phone and either fixes it on the spot or swaps it over.

You could just call Apple Support - they are the ones offering the warranty.

I had an issue with my phone and they collected it and replaced it within two days.

I got my iPhone at Christmas. It didn't ring when calls came in and the wifi didn't work. When I went into the o2 shop, they recommended that I deal directly with Apple - UPS took it off and it was replaced very quickly. I don't know if it's a refurb or not because it looks and works absolutely perfectly. Just ring them, they're very helpful ;)

If it's faulty even after 1 day o2 won't replace it. They'll send it back to apple for you. Their is a 7 day remorse period but this only applies if you change your mind and don't want it. (the 28 day thing only applies to Non-iPhones) And they won't supply a replacement in the meantime. (again this is unique to the iPhone).

As others have said your better off going through apple directly. It's faster as it cuts out the middle man. And they will collect and deilver at your address.

Yes looks like I will be calling Apple direct, just need to find the time to be here for it to be collected.

You can arrange for collection from your house, in fairness as customer care goes apple is the best I've ever dealt with!

Well I finally got off my lazy arse and called Apple. I opted to pay the €29 so they could send me the replacement phone 1st and then I send mine back.

Honestly I can not be doing without my iPhone for 5 days, that's how long I was told it would take from me sending it in to them delivering me a replacement.

Here is a pic of the problem if anyone is interested.

Good service, but is this not open to abuse? i.e say you dropped your phone on a drunkin night out, could u just ring apple and say 'oh my phone has developed a crack by itself'', pay the 29 euro fee, have a new one delivered and give the banjaxed one to the courier?

    No because,

    1. They put a hold on your credit card for the value of the phone you are replacing.

    2. You have 10 days to return your damaged phone if it is late they charge you €150 late fee.

    3. The woman on the phone asked me if I had dropped it. Which I didn't and there isn't a mark to prove otherwise. I did ask her though what is stopping them from saying this isn't a warranty issue and she assured me this is and is covered by the warranty.

If I sent them my phone and waited for them to send a replacement it would have been free. Such a pity we don't have a Genius Bar in this country.

Oh and I almost forgot, she did ask if I had an Apple Store nearby. I had to laugh. :D

So I was like great I need my phone now here is the €29 and I await a new replacement.:pac:

So my replacement arrived with a return bag for UPS. How do I return it though? Do I need to call UPS?

Yep, the phone number should be included in the paper work you recieved and you can arrange a time for a pick-up, don't seal the bag until the UPS guy gets there they need to confirm that there is a phone in the package before they accept it.
