    Hi there

My dad is a fan of chateauneuf du pape in the funny shaped bottle and I was looking to get him a bottle or two for fathers day. It's pretty hard to find around where I am though (co. Clare) so if anyone can tell me where I can get it in clare/limerick/galway or even online, it'd be BRILLIANT!!!

    Thanks ;)

Just to let youi know chateauneuf du pape is a tiny region or Appellation in France and not a specific brand. Therefore there will be numerous vinyards releasing bottles under the chateauneuf du pape name. However in all fairness they all seem to be of a fairly high quality but I'm not qualified to say.

Only saying to let you know to be aware that your father may have a particular favourite out of these vinyards.

Usually a more expensive wine than your bog standards but I'd be surprised if you local independant specialist wine offie did not have it.

Other than that I can't help sorry.

Like the previous poster said, there are quite a few brands that use the chateauneuf du pape name. Your best bet would be either to snoop through his wine rack or just ask him/your ma. Though any ones I've ever had have all been excellent and if you go to a good wine shop they should be able to pick out a good bottle for you.

It's in an oddly shaped bottle... Something like this one

I bought it before in Paris for him. The label said Chateau Neuf du Pape adn the bottle looked like the one in the link - that's all I know I'm afraid!"

Ahh ... you nkow exactly what your looking for ... I have a sneeking suspicion that you will only find this in France.

Maybe just try another Châteauneuf-du-Pape and if you pay over 20Euro for it your probably onto a winner.

They all usually have the papal coat of arms in raised relief on the bottle itself.

    Ah crap!!!
I'm going to France next weekend and all but have no check in luggage so can't bring it home in hand luggage (doubt they'll have it in Beauvais airport!). Might try something else so - thanks!

    Check Superquinn.

They used to do a 'crooked' bottle of the pope's new castle....

I can't say it's the same brand as yours but I remember that the last time we had it, the bottle had to be prised out of my hand....

Lidl had some recently. €21 I believe.

Not the wavy bottle one but one from the region

PS was just in there today, €14.99 a bottle.

I'd recommend Mac's Off licence on The Ennis Road in Limerick.

Probably won't have that particular one but should have a selection of good quality C d P

    or any decent off licence.

Like previous posters said thats a very particular bottle. I doubt you'll find it easily. An awful lot of wine in France is kept in France. Would you consider something else or are you very keen on getting that specific wine?? Persoanlly Id stay away from Chateau Neuf as there are neighbouring regions with the same soil, smae sun but cant be called chateau Neuf, hence you get much better value.. Its the one thing that bothers me about the wine industry and especially France is the confusion over regions.. Oh well sorry thats of no help to you right now!!

I am pretty sure that the wine you are looking for is Père Anselme’s La Fiole du Pape Chateauneuf du Pape. It is imported into Ireland by Cassidy Wines (www.cassidywines.com) of Dublin. I would suggest that you contact them and ask them where your nearest retailer of this wine is located. Cassidys - 353 1 466 8900 or contact@cassidywines.com. I would guess that it will cost about €35 to €40.
Père Anselme’s La Fiole du Pape has become famous worldwide thanks to its emblematic and distinctive bottle shape. Created
in 1952 in collaboration with glass craftsmen and ceramists, this original, strange and unique bottle shape is reminiscent of
the typical wild movement of the vines in the Rhône Valley wine-growing region. The red is a blend of four of the most classic
and important varietals permitted under Châteauneuf-du-Pape regulations: Grenache, to gives the wine its structure, roundness
and mellow quality; Syrah to add colour and aroma; Mourvedre to give the wine its tannins which allow it to age well and
Cinsault to add finesse to the wine. The wine is non vintage because it is a blend of Père Anselme’s best Châteauneuf-du-Pape
cuvées from different vintages, aged in traditional oak casks. It is much like Champagne in that it provides customers with a
guaranteed house style and consistent high quality from one year to another.

    €24.99

Dunno if that's expensive or cheap but it's one he's wanted to get for a while so I've had his father's day present sorted 5 days in advance!!
