what speed 500gig drive did you get 7400 or 5400??

i've heard the PS3 hates faster drives and causes lock ups due to the heat from the faster drive.

have you tried a complete rebuild of the drive? Format to FAT 32 first and if you're using Vista use a dif formatter.

its a 5400rpm drive.its seagate, like the original one from the ps3 itself. the playstation formats the drive itself on changeover, so i didnt have to put the drive near a computer

well that drive should be cool according to other forums although 500g is the max people have gotten to work.

format and rebuild if that fails you might have a duff drive.

Doing a full format might solve it. Though it will take ages I'm sure. But worth a shot. You could also plug it into your PC if you have an external usb dongle or caddy and run a diskscan for bad sectors.

500gig is the max people have gotten to work as that's the max size available to date in a 5400rpm or 7200rpm 2.5" sata drive :D Luckily I've had no issues with any of the following high capacity 2.5" drives : Samsung 500gig 5400rpm, Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gig 5400rpm, Seagate 500gig 7200.7 7200rpm (hard to find up until recently, has 16meg cache and only consume 0.05% more power than a 5400rpm drive..crap seek time though).
