Im doing my driving test on Thursday and I was wondering what do I need to know for the theory part of the test?

    What do they ask?
    How many questions are asked?

The tester is supposed to ask you 6 questions and 12 road signs, but they don't always stick to that, some ask more, some less. The questions they ask should be on the following topics: Traffic Lights, Overtaking, Headlights, Roundabouts, Pedestrian Crossings & Road Markings, but again they don't always stick rigidly to this.
They will also have a sheet with road signs front & back, and they should ask you 6 warning signs & 6 regulatory signs (these usually include the Clearway & Pedestrian St. signs).
If you get 3 or more questions/signs wrong you'll get a Grade 2 fault which then limits you to a max of 7 more faults out on the road.

A straight fail would usually occur if you do something dangerous or potentially dangerous, like going thru a red light or not stopping at a Stop Sign, or if you have total diregard for something, like stopping at a green light. I would strongly encourage you to take at least 1 pre-test lesson before your test and your instructor will go thru everything with you.

I wasn't talking about things that serious! I meant what are the normal things that people fail on?
I've had 5 lessons and 2 more booked for before the test.

Has your instructor not gone thru that with you? I'm surprised that after 5 lessons he hasn't given you clear guidelines as to what to expect on the day, and especially what to look out for and what to avoid. Is he/she an ADI, if not ditch them immediatley and get someone else.

The main areas where people fail by accumulating faults are: poor positioning, poor or inadequate observation, progress and improper use of vehicle controls. But really if you see a driving test report sheet which your instructor should have shown you, any section is a potential cause of failing the test.

People are going out of their way to help you. It might be appropriate to use 'please' and 'thank you' occasionally instead of responding with another impatient question!
