My red punto is looking a little faded, and i would love to get it resprayed? repainted? recoloured?, im sure you get the idea.

Im just wondering whether something like this is a big/expensive job? and what sort of establishment should i look for to get such a job done

    Thanks in advance

    its a 99' 60 model afaik.

dont really have that much money to spend. I dont know what the going cost for this kind of job is, but if i could get it done for>200 quid i would def go for it

I assume ya mean less than 200! I had to get the a drivers door resprayed before, to get it done properly it cost me 350, thets painting the front quarter panal and some of the back one too so it blended in.

It's big money to get a car re painted

get some Tcut and a buffer to bring the car back to good, a 99 punto is worth nothing so don't spend money on it ;)

As previous posters have said its not really worth doing when you consider the value of the car. To re-spray it properly would be expensive and definitely more than the car is worth. I know the red your talking about and I can understand why you'd want to change it. Would you look at buying a punto of the same year but a differnt colour? I reckon you'd pick one up for a few hundred.

+1 You'd be amazed at what some elbow grease and this stuff will do.

Was just gonna say this :D

Tcut - bottle of the stuff can be picked up for around 10 quid, you'll be surprised what it can do :)

as pretty much everyone else has said, get some products to rejuvinate the paint finish, should help, especially on a non metallic black or red.

3000 in local place for full respray.

Red always fades, but by spending a few hours claying, polishing and waxing - it'll make the paint look like new, but expect to spend about €60-€70 on bits and pieces to do a good job and about 4-5 hours of hard graft. I suppose it's better then forking out for respray.

Meguiars is good, but Autoglym is the stuff I use when polishing the car, I use their super resin polish with a rotary polisher, Meguiars clay kit to remove road contaminents, & Autoglym High Definition Wax. Leaves the paint work (met red) with a mirror finish for weeks and only requires a wash every 2 weeks or so to keep it looking fresh. Only need give the car the works every 2 months or so - as you can't feel your arms for a few hours afterwards :o. For black plastics (bumpers etc) a heat gun can be used to restore their colour.

By chance, you haven't been using Washing up liquid when washing the car? As this fades colours

    60-70?

bottle of T Cut, polish and a cloth should be enough to get an old Punto as good looking as is expected of it. 25 quid should be well enough!

Before you even think of a respray you must account for a head gasket job which is about e700 which is going to hit you sooner or later.

Unfortunately, (and even though it is only really used by the unversed) T-cut on its own will only bring back the colour to a medium gloss. And if that is all you use, the paint will start fading or turning pinkish within a month or two. Without applying a sealant or wax after using T-Cut or any polishing compound, the paint is left totally unprotected from the elements, so most of the effort involved would be a waste of time and energy. T-Cutting every few months because you haven't waxed (and continually), and you will remove far more paint than is necessary. The products to do the job properly like clay, polish, wax would cost between 50 and 100 quid depending whether you got the basic essentials in somewhere like Halfords or higher quality gear online.
