mods can u move this to 4X4 forum. It might get a better response there.

Your talking about a 14 year old vehicle here so you need to judge reliability on current condition rather than by make. On a 4x4 of that age I would be checking for signs of abuse especially around the drive train, gearbox, under carriage, chassis, etc. These vehicles are generally used for pulling things so it could have had a hard life. Also make sure to have a mechanic to give it a good examination prior to agreeing to buying it.

Also I heard that the 2.5 TD is heavier on fuel than the more modern 2.8 TD.

I had a 98 2.5TD Pajero Pass for about 4 years from 01 - 05. I would regularly get 300 miles out of a full tank of city driving. The tank was either 55 or 65 litres so based on 55 litres I was getting approx 25mpg

Never had any problems with it - great jeep.

We had a 94 2.5TD LWB in the family up until recently from new to over 200K miles. It was as reliable as you would expect any 90's jap vehicle to be. Only major job it needed was a new (cheapy secondhand) gearbox about 2 years ago. As with anything of that era, if it has been serviced and looked after properly it will go forever.

Regarding fuel consumption, as long as you're not too lead-footed, or towing a big trailer around with you, it's ok.

The only thing it's missing (along with most jeeps I've driven) is a 6th gear for motorway driving. But then again they ain't designed for that.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Thanks guys, the reason im lookin for an older one is because of Feck all to spend. It would be just for drivin around the uncles farm. Through fields (not rough fields). How much was the tax on the passenger swb? Im tryin to get away from expensive tax. The car is 610to tax

Private tax on it is €935, commercial tax is €288 & DOE cert required.
If your just getting it for farm work on private property you don't need tax.

ya they are pretty good, but they are heavy on fuel 2.5 and the 2.8. Cylinder heads and head gaskets are the most common problems they experience
