    hows it going?

heading on tuesday to america for a j1 and have everything sorted!
one thing thats worrying me a bit is the state that my passports in.now its not too bad just i stupidly used to bring it out to nightclubs and its now 4 years old (getting a new one next year) and has doggy ears and the gold on the front is a kinda rubbed off a bit.the id part of it with the picture and information is in perfect condition however and has no problems.

its gone through the us embassy and they have put all the forms in it and the stuck on the visa and seemed to have no problem with it.

i dont know what it is im just dreading that there real strict and ill be refused!
ive had no problems travelling to other countries with it.

anyone have any advice or insight on this?cheers!

It sounds like it's in acceptable condition to me. A few dog ears on an otherwise clear and legible passport is different to some messed up, water damaged passport with bits of rolling tobacco stuck in the binding.

    Chill! This answers your question.

Hi, yeah you should be fine. I have a friend who turned up to his embassy interview and his passport was literally in bits. He was told to get a new one and come back. The fact that you have already been to your interview and they have approved your J1, means you are 100% fine.
    Enjoy the summer!

Oh, by the way, does anybody know if they are strict on passport condition going to south east Asia? Mine is also faded on the front and a bit curled up.

You will probably be fine, you'll have to use your passport in every bar and club for the next 3 months so try and take care of it!

Very true. I literally brought mine out with me every single night last summer in the states and it is a miracle it was not lost. When you arrive, go to a government building such as the one you apply for your SSN in and apply for an invalid state drivers licence to use as an ID. You are entitled to get one once you apply for your SSN. It does not matter that they are not valid for driving and are accepted everywhere as ID.

Any government building will tell you where bouts to go to get the driving licence and they do it for you on the spot. It costs something like $20. One of my friends left his passport in a taxi drunk one night and it cost him like €400 to get another one as he needed to replace his DS-2019 and everything. Messy! Don't let it happen.
