Buying my first road bike

    Hi all,

I'm looking into buying my first road bike. The bike I'm focused on buying is the Ridley Compact. I saw it at my local buckley's for €1200. The advantage I see from buying from my local shop is that they are pretty good with advice and after sales.

However, I'm torn because I've seen a nice Planet X Pro Carbon bike in the UK for about €200 more. This bike is a full carbon with top of the range Dura Ace as compared to Shimano 105 on the Ridley Compact.

The downside from buying from the UK I think would be slow response in terms of after-sales. I also don't know if local shops would help service the planet-x bike.

I'm not into serious racing and I'm only getting into cycling basically for fitness and maybe do a few cycling competitions in Ireland but I want to buy a future proof bike that is comfortable too.

Any suggestions? Anyone used the Ridley or the Planet X bikes? Any experience with service? Any suggestions for other bikes in that range? I'll appreciate any advice really.

Ridleys are fine I know some very serious racers on the continent who have one and it does fine for them so.
