Reformatting Dell Mini 9 - No CD Drive

    Hi all,

    Is there a way to reformat the Dell mini 9 by sharing the CD drive on my other laptop on the home network?

    I have the necessary CDs, just no external USB CD drive.

    How can I get the Netbook to look for the CD drive on the laptop on boot up so that it boots from the CD on the laptop?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    It is unlikely that you can do this at a hardware level, i.e. access the shared DVD drive without haveing booted to an OS.

    Better options would be USB DVD drive or bootable USB key.

    What OS are you trying to install - XP or Ubuntu or something else?

    not sure if this will work,

    make win95/win98 bootable usb key *
    copy the XP cd to it
    boot off the usb key
    cd i386
    winnt

    * to make usb bootake

    You use the HP USB disk storage format tool SP27213.exe
    you can also get the DOS system files from bootdisk.com or format a floppy disk in windows
