I'm thinking of heading to Thailand for 4 weeks later this year and was just wondering how much generally would i need to bring for food, drink, hostels etc for that time. I also dont want to watch what i spend etc.

Can some of you give a price on what an average meal or beer would cost?

    Cheers

For good food expect to pay the same as you would here. I found the thai food to be quite horrible. We went for two weeks and spent around €2000, (bought lots of electronics and stuff)

I really couldn't disagree with that any more. I found the Thai food to be delicious and since Thai food is always much cheaper than western stuff, it is absolutely ridiculous to say that you'd need to spend anywhere near what you'd spend in Ireland for good food.

With €50/day as a budget purely for eating/drinking/transport, I reckon you wouldn't have to watch what you were spending.

EDIT: Also, Thailand isn't really a good place to pick up electronics.

You can spend anywhere from 50 cent upwards on a meal. Depends where/what you eat.

Absolutely, but you certainly don't need to spend €15 to get a high quality meal!

I'm heading for 7 weeks soon enough and I'm bringing 1750.
However that's with no plans whatsoever to stay anywhere nice

you can live in thailand comfortably for 250 a week. agree with an above poster, thai food is amazing, you can pick up pad thai from street stalls for less than 1 euro! you can eat in restaurants relatively cheaply too. to say you have to spend the same amount as you would in ireland for a decent meal is just ridiculous really.

for four weeks i'd be happy enough with anything from 1k to 1.5k. more than enough.

ha...have you even been to Thailand? the most bullsh*t line I have ever read here on boards on so many levels...you would find it impossible to pay the same price for food there even in the 5 star hotels and as for quality...stick to your supermacs so
