New Shoes... ohh suits you...

Just wondering how long should you use new shoes and pedels before going on a long spin? I'm doing the West Cork cycle next weekend and was going to pick up my first clipless pedels today (ahhh), go on a few mid week spins and use them then...

Is that a bad idea or should it be ok? I cycle a good bit but I dont want to be half way around only for my feet to be too sore or my legs to fall off. Should I wait until after the West Cork and have proper prep time for the ROK?

    Thanks in advance

AFAIK cycling shoes don't wear in as such. Just use them as much as possible, and if they feel comfortable go with it.

Ya, I guess your right. I'll hit the hills on tues/wed and see how it feels... looking forward getting more power in the pedals, to pulling the pedal up with clipless. I'm using cages at the mo, they really are a pain in the ass and quite uncomfortable. Cheers

It's not so much the new shoes that I'd worry about as good cycling shoes are usually pretty comfortable. However, if you're new to clipless pedals and their cleats, then you'd want to be very sure that you have the cleats postioned right for comfort/efficiency as it can take a little bit of trial and error to get the right position, avoiding sore knees. See how it goes this week but be a little bit wary and if you've any doubts then maybe build up to very long spins a bit more gradually.
