RTE signal has deteriorated badly

    Hi there,

First post on this forum, so apologies if any probs with it.

    I'm located in south Wexford.

Had to get a new roof ariel a few months ago as the other one blew down. Got it up, and had perfect rte1, rte2, tv3 and tg4 from it.

A few weeks ago, rte1 deteriorated, and I have tried to manually and auto tune it back in, but no luck, it can't find it at all. Its not so much snow, as really unclear and unwatchable. The other 3 stations are perfect, and it didn't seem to be a problem that weather had turned the ariel.

Any ideas about what may be wrong with it?
thanks in advance for any help.

    Overload by DTT

Have you an amplifier? If so bypass it as a test.

Sorry watty, not really sure what your reply means. Have been trying to read the faq's but not very technical when it comes to this stuff. Afaik we do not have an amplifier, just ariel on roof - unless there would be one attached to that?

Also have a sky box that we get the fta channels on which is connected into the tv by scart lead/sat dish on back of house.

If I get the ariel moved around could this fix it? If so, will try and find someone with roof ladder and willing to go up on roof - as I'm 8 and a half months preg myself dont think I'll be up to it :o

As all the neighbours get their rte from sky box subscriptions and don't have ariels, can't get them to test either.

unlikly you need to adjust the aerial.

If the aerial cable goes via Sky box, disconnect and plug direct as you watch the satellite channels via SCART.

RTE is testing new digital terrestrial transmissions and some of these are very much higher power and can overload aerial amplifiers or "loop" RF connections on Satellite or VHS boxes.

P.S. I recommend you don't even stand on a chair, no matter how much you suddenly feel the need to redecorate / brush down webs / empty airing cupboard.

ariel connects directly into back of tv.

    skybox connected separately.

Do I take it then that I just have to wait for them to sort things out, or can I ring somewhere to check if the testing they are doing is interfering with my signal?

Then again, I should be busy enough over the next few weeks not to have to worry about missing rte1...;)

    No harm to ring RTE.
You never know it could be broken and if everyone is watching on Satellite...

Yor sure there is no preamp / aerial amp /mast amp of any sort? Simply the
    TV aerial

Tends to affect all the channels.

    Hi there,

just in case anyone else runs into this problem, i'm just giving an update!

As per earlier post, I was 8.5 months pregnant, so as my new arrival took up most of my free time, rte1 got left on back burner. was flicking around a week ago, and suddenly noticed its back, almost as good as new. so it does seem like the fault was their end

I've noticed since that the weather - wind mainly - seems to really affect the picture, but as it seems to be their end, and as you can still kinda see it, I'm happy enough to leave it for now. Can't sit on my ass much anymore anyhow, so can't get chance to look at it.

thanks to those who offered words of wisdom, and glad I didn't have to go up on the roof :o
