Bring My Handicap Up!!

I know this is an unusual request but is there any way I can get my handicap up to a more realistic level??

I currently am a distance member in Slievenamon - Joined last year having taken up the game under 2 years ago. I did my 3 rounds and was given a handicap of 17.5!
In their calculations (On Golfnet it can be seen!) I would have been off 22.
I know that this is done to try to prevent bandits and I agree completely with this policy but having only been able to play in two counting competitions I am now 17.7!
The only reason I want to bring my handicap up is to give myself a bit of a chance to finish out more holes in a round which will of course remove a lot of scratches from my cards!!!
I know some of you will reply with the (correct) reason is to improve your handicap but I am getting a bit frustrated and it is beginning to affect my game..... I am still enjoying it though :D
Any suggestions welcome...... constructive that is!
I am starting some lessons next week so that should help my game!

Firstly I would say finish out every hole anyway regardless of points, strokes etc. unless your holding up play. I think the only way this will happen is if you play lots more golf and get .1 back for every round you play but I bet if you start playing a lot more golf you wont need that 22 handicap anyway as you will improve. Set yourself a target and I think it should be to remain at 18. Thats a shot on every hole and anyone who can swing a club can play to this if they apply themselves correctly and it seems like your doing that with the lessons etc.

    Hang in there

have to agree with buchaill. Keep playing and work it to your advantage. I was 27 handicap (allocated by a pro and not calculated) and when I handed in my cards I was brought down to 24. I am in no way a 24'r in any way but I will keep plugging away and hopefully will get below that.

Have fun, but you have to finish the holes, even if you are 4/5/6 over par, you need to monitor how its going for you .

I was given 16 when I started as a complete beginner. The 3 cards I gave in were all around 100 strokes.
The only thing you can do is play a lot of singles competitions - a combination of .1's and more golf should get you to a realistic handicap but it might take the rest of the year to be honest.

If you keep handing in cards you may be given an shot or two back at the end of the season. We conduct an a review at the end of the competitive season and submit scores to the gui who adjust handicaps in both directions. About 40 of our members were adjusted last year, some up and some down........so the advice of keep on plugging away and hand in as many cards as you can is the best way to proceed.
