Triton T90xr problem

    Hi folks,

having lots of problems with our shower-it's just over a year old and it goes WAY too hot, then ice cold and then back again, all the time making strange noises. I think we live in a hard water area because if you take off the head and give it a bang in the sink a load of brown/black scale comes out and if you take the hose off the stuff comes direct out of the unit. You can still make a lather with soap though, but I'm wondering if all of the hardness is being taken up by the element?

It used to be a case of unblocking the shower head from the scale and the shower would work fine, but it seems to be completely clogged up with the stuff in the element now. Are the elements easy to replace? Expensive? I opened it up and it doesn't seem too bad-looks like it was designed for easily replacing parts. I'm pretty handy, so I think I'd be able to do it myself.

A quick search has revealed that Triton showers have a lot of problems-could anyone suggest a possible alternative?

I recommend www.showerdoc.co.uk, a Scottish-based plumber/shower supply company. They have a technical forum for asking questions, one for each major brand. Log on there, and they might have you right as rain in no time. He also (of course!) sells all the parts, and you can download parts diagrams for the particular shower.

Running hot and cold usually means pressure problems. As you know the triton is pumped so it does not rely on stored attic pressure However

Have you had an attic conversion? Sometimes when an attic conversion is carried out the tank is dropped to the floor of the attic. This causes a drop in gravity pressure to the shower. additionally if the head is blocked this causes a build up of back pressure

Take off the shower head and hose and soak it in a solution of clear vinager. It works great for me. Make sure its clear as malt stains the head.

I am in a semi hard water area and the vinegar solution works fine

9 year old post so chancing my arm.

When I say I'm useless when it comes to DIY you have no idea,

Is this shower a main fed or gravity fed or anyway of finding it out?

Not mains fed, must be fed from tank in attic.

I've a tank in the attic so I'll take that as a gravity fed one time to get a silent shower, the noise of that xr one
