Getting ready to go out the other night with the other half ( him ) when an old "issue" raises its head again:mad: . For the full monty job I will take on average about an hour and a half to get myself ready for a night on the town , that includes hair wash which is uncomplicated. So pick out clothes , shower/ hair,
make up, a good look in the mirror -job done:D . Himself (adviser to God) :confused:or so he claims goes through the same procedure in about half an hour ( he says, I never notice) but bitches me no end cos I take so long . 2 questions, 1, do I take too long, 2 , will I boil wash every stitch of clothing he owns ?? :P

Over 2.5 hours is probably pushing it. It's nice to be able to take your time when getting ready, to relax a bit while you're doing it so I don't think 1.5 is bad at all. As long as you start early enough to not make anyone late, I see no issue with how long anyone takes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭insert-gear

I would agree, if I'm washing my hair then that itself takes an hour, before tan if Im wearing any or makeup. Once you allow enough time... tell him to bugger off

I would probably take 1.5 hours to get ready on a night out and I think it's fine! As Pythia said it's nice to relax while your getting ready, there's nothing more annoying than someone trying to rush you when your trying to get ready!! It's my pet hate and makes me really cranky!!! :mad:lol
As long as your ready for the agreed time then I don't see a problem with it!!! Whole different story if the plan is to go out at 9pm and you start getting ready at 8:30 and not ready till 10!! :p

soon as he walks in the door this evening, unless he looks in "the mood" and if he is I will just have to shag him into submission / then give him hell tomorrow. :D

Im around the 1.5 as well, shower, legs, hair, makeup, clothes.
I know i take ages so i start ridiculously early and I am always the first ready to leave.

If i rush i end up feeling hot and my makeup runs and my hair gets frizzy and i end up forgetting my phone or my wallet.

People know to just leave me alone and i'll be ready when i'm ready.

1.5 hours .... jeez you are lucky!! If I didn't have to wash my hair it would probably take me about an hour to get ready to go out ... if I'm washing my hair it's a different story .... takes about an hour just to dry it and then another 20 mins at least if I want to straighten it  would love to get it all chopped off but I'm too scared :p

well alright. thats a fair argument. but like here is something i find from doing research. wearing make up actually ruins a woman's skin. just think of all the chemicals in it. so there's time you can cut off the getting ready time

and eh what kind of dress lets knicker lines show through them. wow. u must have some very skimpy clothing. oh brother did i say that out loud?!?!? i did didnt i!!!! :o

Dont know what research you're readin there tolteq...so not true.

Me..id be the 1.5-2hr mark myself but can do it in 30mins if hairs not involved. I love getting ready for a sat night when i have the time. Id start about 5pm sat eve and take my time...few drinks...chattin...ready to go out for 9 (ok it doesnt take the full 4hrs to get ready but you get my drift). Including doing tan on the friday evening...well it all adds up and im certainly no prima donna by any means.

    Oh my god! 1.5 hours???
What in the heck. Including shower and hair wash Im take 30 mins max.
And I thought that that was ages.
I have long hair, poker straight so I guess that saves time. Along with I dont wear fake tan (Im sorry ladies, but I think nothing looks worse on a woman), I dont put on full make-up (mascara and eyebrows are the most important thing. Maybe a little rouge on cheeks and maybe a little eyeshadow and tinted lipgloss). And with that Im out the door!
And yes, make-up/foundation does ruin your skin. I only wear moisturiser with an SPF.

I would hope that I am low maintenance in the looks department (another fake tan/foundation hater) but even for me it would take more than 90 minutes to get ready for a big event...this would include putting on emersion (for hot water) - 30 min and having a bath (hate showers) - 15 min, washing hair and drying - 30 min, putting on lipstick, eyeshaddow (do not normally but if it is a big event yes), mascara - 10 min and if I am putting on nail varnish another 15 min....that puts me at 1 hour 40 min...of course if I am in a hurry I just do the makeup and put the hair up but normally you know in advance about these things!

low maintenance or high/ several factors come into play and one of them is AGE !!!! do you want to spend long enough at the make
up to look as good as you did 10 years ago ?? someetimes i do sometimes not ,i just turned 40 and i think i am accepting the "hot"days are over ....still like to look my best though , him indoors still drools at the sight of me in my undies. mmmmm think Il wake him up.

I don't wear fake tan either, too messy!

It takes me half an hour to wash my hair, half an hour to dry and straighten it, maybe 15 minutes make-up, 15 minutes nail varnish (sometimes), maybe 20 minutes to decide what I'm wearing and get dressed ... and I like to take my time, so maybe two hours altogether! Although usually I have my friends over and we all get ready together with a bottle of wine, so it's often even longer than that.

Though I've often gotten ready for a last-minute night out in maybe 15-20 minutes, if I didn't have to wash my hair! I love getting ready though, it's fun :)

I am 35 now and so far age has not come into it - turning 40 does not mean that you are no longer "hot", anything but.

I never normally include washing hair/having a bath as part of getting ready time, it is more a matter of personal hygiene for me - I normally put on the makeup in the car on the way to the event (as the husband drives) and the nails are done before work one day (I normally use the 60 second stuff)...my husband prefers me with nothing on! The example I gave was the day I was getting ready for my wedding :D

Have to agree with you on this, a nice even layer of fake tan is perfect for getting that healthy glow ... much more attractive than deathly white, pale skin IMO. A lot of women who don't look like they're wearing fake tan actually are wearing it - they just haven't gone down the orange, streaky, oompa loompa route that some ladies have which gives fake tan a bad name !!!

    :D

God knows i love to hear what your saying , too many women let themselves go too early . I know we dont all have it easy and i feel society in general should support women more , after all its our bodies go through so many changes what with pregnancy and hormone changes . I probably sound daft but i truely believe women should get more help and encouragement. off thread a little, sorry.

wearing make up actually ruins a woman's skin. just think of all the chemicals in it.

Name ten of these chemicals, what they are and what they do to the skin in your own words. Give mechanisms of action- I mean precisely how they affect cell membranes, mitochondria etc. This is all news to me and I'm curious, as a scientist. Of course, that article was complete rubbish.

Most make up is fairly inert, and actually, the worst thing for Irish skin is the sun which causes most wrinkles, and make up is usually about SPF 15. So make up is protective in that way. It can give you spots and minerals can dry you out a bit.

I take about half an hour to get ready, I shower in the morning and I like my hair natural- wavy, long, light blonde. I'm too fair for fake tan, don't need much foundation. Mascara/eye make up looks odd on me.

I take an hour max, I would have my tan done the day before and I would ALWAYS know what I'm wearing well before I start getting ready, so in and out of the shower, hair washed and dried and straightened (when required) in 40mins max - make up 10 mins - dressed - 2 mins. And I would never bring make up out with me on a night out, once it's on that's me for the night!

I'm going to a wedding friday week. I'm finished work at 12, getting my hair done at 12.15 - home by 1, dress on, make up on, loads of time to get to church for 2!!!!

Probably about 20 minutes for me - similar to the average guy! I don't wear make-up, nail polish or fake tan so that's a huge amount of time saved for me. My hair doesn't take long to do either, I have very short hair in a low-maintenance style.

I love to take my time getting ready, I enjoy it! It takes me about an hour and a half, including shower, hair, make up and outfit. Don't wear tan, rarely paint my nails.

However, if I'm in a rush, I can be ready in half an hour. Instead of a full made up face, I'll put on moisturiser, primer and concealer, and do the rest on the bus :P Hair just needs mousse and a blast of the hairdryer.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 17,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭Das Kitty

If I'm going out on a night out it takes me maximum 45 minutes to get ready.

That includes the shower, full face of slap, trying of clothes to see what fits (yes I know) and discarding what doesn't on the chair, and brushing my hair. I'd rarely dry it as it dries the same either way.

Usually takes me about a half hour though and sometimes I'm even ready before my husband!

I guess I have dexterous hands so I never have to redo the makeup, and I only wear about 4 different eyeshadow combinations ever so I pretty much know what I'm doing with that before I start. Not a fake tan person either.

After years of clothes crisis problems I've masteded the art of getting ready.

I plan the outfit in advance and try it on. That's when I find the correct bra, Spanx if required, the correct stockings/tights, shoes, jewellery, handbag. That way the clothes are sorted in 5 minutes. I wear dresses usually which cuts down on co-ordination problems.

I don't do fake tan but will make sure all hair removal and nail painting is done in advance as well.

Then all that's required is hair and make-up. The make-up only takes 10 minutes, eyeliner being the slowest part. I've been practicing for years so I'm faster than some of the younger ladies would be. I don't experiment much with make-up either but I try different colours at the make up counters when I shop for make-up.

My hair is long and thick but I have that down to 40 minutes.

    Going out routine:
1: Gin & Tonic while I decide what to wear. 20 mins.
2: Iron & starch chosen shirt. 10 min.
3: Check suit and stream if required 5 to 10 mins.
4: Spit polish shoes. 20 mins.
5: Shower and hair. 5 mins.
6: Shave (x2 for close shave). 30 mins.
    7: Comb & trim beard & moustache. 5 mins.
8: Apply moustache wax and shape. 10 mins.
    9: Gin & Tonic. 20 mins.
10: Apply body unguents and deodorants 2 mins.
    11: Dress, 20 mins.
12: Find the right cufflinks. 10 mins. :o
13: Adjust moustache into the final desired shape. 3 mins.
14: Polish & put on the 'Going out' glasses and final adjustment of necktie. 5 mins.
14: Gin & Gin & tonic. Until taxi arives.

Approx 190 minutes. Easy. And I'm STILL quicker then Mrs Goat. :)

Edit: obviously the gins have affected my ability to count by the time the taxi arives.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

    Wow! Some people take aaaages!
I can get ready very fast. Usually when I'm going out I'm finished work at about 10.30 so I've gotten used to getting ready fast.

I can have a shower, wash my hair, get dressed, dry and straighten my hair, put on make up..in half an hour. Don't wear fake-tan. It just looks ridiculous on me. Or nail varnish, not allowed because I work around food. Speedy speedy!

Im about an hour and a half aswel. I usally try to have the wear off tan put on the night before. then shower, hair, nails and make up takes an hour to an hour and a half. Hate rushing when getting ready tho, Il make a mess of something cuz im flustered.
If im going out for 9 il start getting ready at 7 or half past. And sur with a glass of wine aswell to start me off :p

I think spending time getting ready is part of the fun of a night out, while im getting ready i stick on music for a warmup.
I enjoy the whole process of getting ready because normally in my everyday life its a quick dash.

Depends what kind of night out and what I'm wearing. I would put on Sally Hansen tan for a proper night out, and if I'm wearing a dress that would involve doing my legs too. At most that would take 15 minutes. Then make up would take anouther 10. If I'm having a shower and washing my hair that would take about 45 minutes, for the shower and to get the hair dry and somewhat straight. Run the straightner over it would be about 10 minutes. I don't include the time it takes to pick an outfit, because I usually do that during the day (I can't not think about the night ahead when I know I'm going out)

If I'm in a rush and not washing hair I can be ready in about 10 minutes, and just do my makeup on the bus (a trick every girl should master)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭taram

If going to work I always know what I'm wearing in advance, so shower/eyeliner/mascara/quick brush of hair is about 30 mins start to finish. If going out however :D I can in theory be ready in 20 mins, but generally take an hour, but agree with a previous poster, I'm always on time for events, and that's what counts!!! :pac:

Im usually an hour and a half!!!thats including shower, tanning, hair, make up and nails. Sometimes it stretches to 2 hours but thats if im taking my time!! Nothing beats taking ages to get ready though for a nite out with a bit of a pamper session includes.....face mask, really long shower, bit of a pedicure :D But i have been known to get ready in 30 minutes if its a frantic last minute decision!!:p

I find some of the posts funny (no disrespect meant). It just goes to show how different girls/women can be!!!
Personally, I would find getting ready that long boring. I could find nothing more boring than giving myself a pedicure! Each to their own. Im sure there are lots of things I do ye might find boring. I am regimental in tweezing eye brows. I hate hate hate having ungroomed eyebrows. I spend at least one evening a week tweezing them for about 30mins. I find hair grows superfast.

I am fairly sure too, that by the sounds of it, most of you guys would look alot more groomed than me! Grooming for me is washing my hair twice!!!

I usually don't take much time to get ready. It bores me. I shower in 10 minutes. My hair is thick but short so I put a bit of serum in it and let it dry naturally into curls which doesn't take long at all. Getting dressed takes a minute at most. Make up takes 5 minutes at most. I spend the rest of the time being entertained by my friends who usually spend an hour trying on clothes.

I take about an hour or hour and a half. Don't use fake tan often. If I do I only use very small amount and don't look orange. There are skin care and make up products that contain little or no harmful substances. I try to use these. Going out with out make up is not an option for me are I have problem skin (Rosacea).
