    http://www.rdfra.ie/money_matters.shtml

Just over €450. Although on my last pay I was only paid €423 by them, although some of this could have been payment in arrears because I was only on a 6 day camp.

But €450 is what you should be payed.

That scale is out of date, its just over €499 now.

    €390.68

(Recruit is a Private Grade 1)

Of course there will probably be deductions made from this in your payslip.

The Income levy does apply to us as I found out earlier this year much to my chagrin. It's only around €9 on a 3*'s pay though.

I think the income levy is 1% of gross pay. Then theres RDFRA at 4.5% of first weeks pay (I'm beginning to seriously doubt if this is worth it). PRSI sometimes as well.

I would advise any recruits to go to the tax office and sort out your tax credits with them before camp, or else you might find yourself paying emergency tax or something.

RDFRA is voluntary, you dont have to be a member...

What exactly has to be sorted out, and who would I give all my tax information to?

Does anyone know how long the RDF is off for after the camps? I think I remember being told it was in a couple of weeks but I've also heard from people, who may or may not know better, that it's until September!

You should contact the Revenue Commissioners ( details here http://www.revenue.ie/en/contact/index.html for your local office) and tell them you want to assign tax credits to the Department of Defence, employer number 4000166T. You will need to tell them your PPS number and address. Tell them how much you expect to get paid for your training as well as how much you are paid from other taxable jobs as this will allow them to assign an appropriate number of credits. I takes about five minutes over the phone and your details should be updates within a few days.

If this is your first time being paid by the DoD, ensure you have submitted your bank account name, number and sort code to your unit aswell as your PPSN to ensure you receive your pay.

Usually once your unit's full time training has finished you won't be back until September. Some units may have more FTT or field days so check on your next training night.

you are looking for form 12A, only if you have never filled it out though as in if you never had a job. You want to put the Dept of Defence as your employer. (assuming you have no other job.)

Yes and I'm seriously considering becoming a non-member, although I'd rather not say why on a public forum.

Depends on the unit, most would be off until September I'd imagine, but ask your training NCOs or cadre staff.

    Income levy is 2%

Forgot about that, my last payslip was from before it went up.

There's nothing wrong with giving out about the RDFRA here, it's not your Unit, it's a bunch of unelected (for the most part) Reps who do feck all but complain. (in my opinion.) Needless to say, I am not a member.

Well the short version is I strongly disagree with the conduct of certain reps during an RDFRA recruitment talk on a course I was on this year. Barefaced lies and childish angry outbursts when they were picked up on that etc. Send me a PM if you want the full story.

I like the sig by the way.

So... hold on! I was interested in joining the RDF for a bit of fun, exercise and as a bit of a challenge, and you're telling me I get paid for this?

And I'd get paid in the region of €300 A WEEK!?

I bet I've missed something, or mis-read it! I must have!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 471 ✭✭pmg58

Yes you have, its actually almost €400 a week for a recruit.

But theres currently a recruitment embargo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 42 Huxoin

Wow, that's amazing. And that's for what? Just the standard training once a week and the camps etc?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, i just skimmed through the website!

Thats for a week of full time training, as a recruit. Recruits do a 2 week recruit course. There is also training some weekends, and most units train for 2 hours one evening per week. You are generally only paid for the full time training.
