I don't know about now, but the cheapest Mac compatible tuner was the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900, you'll want the Mac version of it (Grey/White and not Black). It's the same tuner as one of the older Elgato tuners but half the price, however it came with it's own software and not EyeTV which costs €80, also I don't think it was MPEG4 capable but there's probably a newer version of it that is.

I personally have the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid and can't fault it. It cost €130 including delivery from the Apple website but it comes with the software and is capable of MPEG4 decoding.

+ 1 for the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900. I bought the Black version (€69 in PCWorld) and downloaded the Elgato EyeTV Software. Very pleased with it so far :)

That is the best combo IMO and I did something similar for a Mac I gave to my dad: the Hauppauge tuner can be found cheaper than the Elgato equivalent almost everywhere (and like Talisman said, it's the same hardware, just colored differently) and you then can buy Eye TV 3 as a digital download - it recognizes the Hauppauge just fine and works brilliantly...

I can also vouch for the Hauppauge...it's a great product!smile.gif
