Looks like it wasn't serious if they got on their way again.

yes, but of course it will mean that people will get more and more nervous over the coming days. my mate is a journalist and apparantly some airline pilots have threatened a strike.

Hopefully there aren't many people who would do that in this day and age (tho it is a big problem for chinese airlines).

I know of flights that have almost diverted due to smoke from the ovens when they were particulary dirty and the cabin crew thought that the galley was on fire.

Yes! Those bacon rolls left a little too long and the plastic burns. Had quite a few of these 'galley fires'. Some cabin cleaners at LHR do not clean the ovens properly again leading to smoke when heat applied.

Smoke in the cockpit on the A330 that landed at EINN.

    Transatlantic jet diverted to Shannon
    Friday, 12 June 2009 20:08
A transatlantic jet was forced to declare an emergency this afternoon and divert to Shannon Airport after cabin crew reported smoke in the passenger cabin.

Northwest Airlines flight 821, an Airbus A330, was carrying 285 passengers and crew and was en route from Fiumicino Airport in Italy to Atlanta in the US.

At around 1pm, the pilot contacted air traffic controllers at Shannon and informed them of the emergency.

The pilot requested permission to divert to Shannon where the plane touched down safely at around 1.30pm.

Units of the fire service from Shannon Town and Ennis, along with ambulances from Clare and Limerick, were scrambled to the airport.

The plane was inspected by engineers and given the all-clear to depart for Atlanta.

No one was injured in the incident.
