    I'd say you're looking at a re-sanding and a hard-wearing lacquer (a 2-part floor lacquer is supposed to be best).

    Have you considered laying a stair runner, can look good and keep the noise down?

    I have the same problem with my wooden floor at the door I would love to know the answer as well. I am thinking using white spirit to clean the dirt then picking out the deep dirt before using a hard wareing varnish to recoat
