Hello! Can anyone tell me what the customs tax/VAT rate would be on a household item (coffee machine) worth €350 sent from Australia to Ireland as a gift to an Irish resident? We had to pay €106 on the above and I couldnt believe that we would have to pay tax on a gift, especially tax equalling almost a third of the value!…

Hello!

Can anyone tell me what the customs tax/VAT rate would be on a household item (coffee machine) worth €350 sent from Australia to Ireland as a gift to an Irish resident?

We had to pay €106 on the above and I couldnt believe that we would have to pay tax on a gift, especially tax equalling almost a third of the value! Can someone please shed some light!?
