I've been sent over here from motors, told ye were the men, and women, for the job, hopefully someone can help..

I want to run a few lights, power inverter & a few other bits & bobs in the back of my van & know I'll need a bigger battery, I have a 130Ah battery in at the moment. I was thinking putting another battery in the back & paralleling it would be cheaper & easier than trying to find some "super battery" as I've a few batteries knocking about.

As you can see, the "super batteries" aint pocket friendly http://www.apexbattery.com/universal...l-battery.html

Has anyone done this sucessfully? The van is a 1.9 diesel Primastar, would the altenator handle the charging??

The simples way to do this is use a voltage sensing relay here is an example http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100A-INTELLIGENT-VOLTAGE-SENSING-VSR-Split-Charge-Relay_W0QQitemZ280351641427QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090529?IMSfp=TL090529147003r38889#ebayphotohosting
Either keep the second battery close or use large cables to run from the starter battery and put a fuse in. The auxillary battery will charge when the starter battery is fully charged and disconnect itself when the van is off.
This is simplest method and is cheap u can use a sterling battery to battery charger if u want some fancy charging

Cant remember of the3 site i got mine from there was a big difference in price so shop arround. Sterling power is the make i got. U need to know what u want to power from the inverter as there are 2 types pure and square wave. Big difference in price so u need to think about what u are going to power from them. Some appliance dont work on square wave. Big money for a pure sine wave inverter

It'll just be chargers for drills mainly. Maybe something funny if I'm away fishing but I wouldn't be to concerned if they didn't work.
