The firefighter fell off the roof of the house while trying to put out the chimney fire, and sustained serious injuries.

He was taken to Naas hospital, where he is described as being in a critical condition.

not trying to be smart here but i guess you dont deal with alot of chimney fires or you would know that going on the roof is a LAST option.

"what the hell was he doing on the roof for a chimney fire"

His post seems perfectly clear to me but your obviously reading something different in to it. You are perfectly correct that going onto a roof is the last thing you do to put out a chimney fire.

When he said " what the hell was he doing on the roof for a chimney fire" it seemed clear to me that he was saying why was he up there in the first place and had they tried chimney rods from the ground.

If you don't take the same meaning fair enough. i'm not an english teacher

Thanks for clearing that up Paulzx. Hopefully there is no more confusion and we can continue to keep our fingers crossed that the fireman in question will pull through.

Are there any updates on the condition of the man in question?

    that was my point exactly

our stations thoughts are with him and his family.

to add to the chimney fire debate. we have equipment for attacking them from the fireplace, but there is times in older houses (and even new) sometimes when the fire just can be extinguished or cooled or the stirup pump/ brushes cant get to the fire, then attacking from the roof is an alternative option. we have even had on breathing apperatus sets a few times in the attic at chimney fires, and when u have a ba set on a chimney fire, you know its bad!!!

thers no such thing as simple call or "ah sure, its just a chimney fire".

    get well soon
