Anybody notice especially in the higher VHF frequencies today there was a lot of interfearence from french and spanish radio stations. At 1 point i completely lost i102 104 today and had some french station instead. There was also a very strong station on 105.7 from abroad. This was in mayo between louisburgh and westport

Near Clonmel yesterday (Weds) I was getting a spanish radio station on 95.7fm. Very strong signal but no RDS.
    Nothing today however.:pac:

No seems fairly widespread in Europe, I heard Swedish & German hams on 50MHz on Discone at about 7pm today.

28MHz was open to Italy, I had a brief chat on 28.450MHz. Just 18 ft of wire hanging off side of house as aerial.

Lots of 70MHz and 144MHz long distance logging on DXCluster. Nothing heard on 144MHz on my own monster aerial at 6pm to 7pm.

why is this classed as hobby radio as my inital report was for the VHF FM normal radio band not ham radio? Anyhow, yes lots of reports on UK forums about this yesterday, one guy was receiving same station as me on 105.7 from alicante in north wirral!

10m/11m were wide open yesterday morning with unbelievable signals being heard. The summer short skip is here with very strong signals from the UK normally not heard. Lots of activity from the Netherlands, Denmark etc. also.

Brought me back to the excitement when I was a lad of working all of Europe on a few watts FM. Even worked the Netherlands on an old FM walkie-talkie with the built in whip and less than 2 watts. Happy days....

I got around five Spanish radio stations (with RDS) crystal clear on the car radio yesterday, interrupting the other stations.

As far as I remember they were called RNE1, RNE3, RNE Clasica, DIAL and (Radio?) San-Sebastian.

Yeah, I picked up DIAL in Letterkenny yesterday.

This is Hobby Radio, Not Ham Radio Forum.

People interested in all Aspects of radio rather than just listening to the Local programs.

(The "Foreign" Satellite Forum similarly may be re-named Hobby Satellite to more accurately reflect it's content.)

Reports of DX (Long Distance) is definitely "Hobby" Radio. DX TV reception used to be a popular hobby too. Now those guys have 2m dishes instead of Yagis :)

The reception of foreign VHF broadcast stations is of great
interest to the radio amateur. Openings on the VHF broadcast
bands usually coincide with openings on the amateur VHF
    bands.

The usual propagation mode at this time of year is
    sporadic-E.

Tropospheric (tropo') propagation modes usually associated
with high barometric pressure can also extend the range
of VHF/UHF propagation far beyond line-of-sight.

I have Radio Roma jamming Radio Riviera (Monaco) 106.5, on my car radio.

This happens all summer every year. Don't laugh RR is the only English language radio station I can get.

    No R4 LW?

I get a French and German and one other weaker LW station as well as R4 and RTE on LW in car here in Limerick.

Again this morning at 07.30am, i was receiving a british radio station from leeds.... on 97.7. I am pretty sure that the presenter mentioned leeds. Great signal, mainly chat but sadly no jingles, or RDS. but happy to reprt that in the Foggy Tipperary morning, I was receiving overseas stations......:pac:

Nothing to do with fog, (Don't be fooled) but if you take some time to understand the atmospheric conditions that are around at the moment, you will see that it is high pressure related.. :D

Use this to forecast high pressure.

    http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html#hour18

Today there is a high pressure path between South Ireland and North West France.

Here is the reason why you are hearing UK statons on VHF.. Happy to help..... ;)
