I have a finished novel and sent it to Strategic Book Publishing in NY. They will publish as joint venture 50% royalties and I pay $890.00. They will then do the devil and all on the marketing front including opening a web site. I'm not sure though. All of their emails are generic. Does anyone know anything about Liz Page and Strategic Book Publishing please?

I don't know, but why not approach some of the publishers who will pay you money first? Much as I love seeing my name in print, I love it even more when it's on a cheque.

Are they going to edit this book for you? Where are they going to publish it? What sort of numbers?

This will be my forth published book but first novel. I have had three rejections from traditional publishers (though admittidly I've improved it since). Strategic Book Publishers will publish as many copies as we can sell in e and real format. They also will distribute and promote etc. That's not a problem. I'm still a bit leery of them though and would love to get a bit of feedback on them. Thanks.

They appear to be a very dodgy vanity publisher / scam outfit
    Check out:
    http://www.sfwa.org/Beware/twentyworst.html

And from the Absolute Write forums:

Here's the current "Alert" that is up on Writer Beware regarding this company. You'll also find them in the "Thumbs Down" Agency list.

    ************************************************** ***************

Writers' Literary Agency / WLA (formerly The Literary Agency Group)

The Literary Agency Group, a business controlled by Robert M. Fletcher of Boca Raton, Florida, changed its name in February 2007 to Writers' Literary Agency & Marketing Company (a.k.a. Writers' Literary Agency, WLA, or WL Writers' Agency).

This umbrella group includes the following:
    WL Children's Agency
    WL Poet's Agency
    WL Screenplay Agency
Writers' Literary & Publishing Services Company (the editing arm of the above-mentioned agencies)
Other current businesses or websites that Writer Beware believes are associated with Writers' Literary Agency, based on referrals and website content:
    Writers' Book Publishing Agency
    Children's Book Publishing Agency
    Poetry Book Publishing Agency
    Screenplay Writers' Agency
    Global Book Agency
    Eloquent Books (offers pay-to-publish contracts)
    Strategic Book Agency
    Strategic Book Publishing
    Strategic Book Marketing
Other names the business has used include Sydra-Techniques, ST Literary Agency, Stylus Agency, Children's Literary Agency, Christian Literary Agency, New York Literary Agency, Poet's Literary Agency, The Screenplay Agency, and My Editor Is A Saint (an editing company).

Since the business began operating in 2001 under the name Sydra-Techniques, Writer Beware has received hundreds of complaints and advisories of fee-charging, editing referrals, and other questionable practices. We're not aware that the company has a significant track record of commercial book or script sales under any of its names.

Writers who have had trouble with Robert M. Fletcher or any of the above-named businesses, and who are or were residents of the state of Florida, please get in touch with Ann Crispin at anncrispin@aol.com (or beware@sfwa.org, if the AOL address bounces), even if you have previously contacted her. Please provide complete contact information. Thanks for your cooperation.

The Florida Attorney General's Economic Crimes Investigation is also investigating them for the following: (1) Charging aspiring writers various fees totaling hundreds of dollars for professional services that were either not rendered at all or were not rendered in good faith; (2) Charging for unnecessary services; and (3) Creating unreasonable consumer expectations concerning their prospects for publication by failling to criticize submitted drafts, in order to encourage the consumer and collect more fees.

    Stay well away!

Thank you very much MikeC101. This is exactly what I needed and comfirms the real value of formes like this. Its back to the drawing board for me I think. But it could be worse. I nearly ran with them. They would have got me on the editing. Thanks again.
