You are, but places are severely limited at present. The Iarnrod Eireann website lists how many bikes can go on what service.

I have a feeling Dublin-Wexford is the one intercity service you can't take a bike on. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Actually, here's Iarnród Éireann's own list of train services on which bikes are permitted, and I see no mention of any Wexford ones:

Thanks for that link, makes it a bit clearer than the old guesswork system.

Phone the train manager (?) at the departure station on that morning, get his/her name if they say yes. That way when you come to the gate you can say "... well your boss X, said earlier today that I could bring this bike on board and I've bought my ticket and the bike's ticket on that premise".

Theoretically you can on some trains. But in my experience, it is actually not worth the hassle. It is simply too stressful (for me) to wait to see are you actually allowed to board the train.
If you are not bothered by that then go ahead. But be prepared, for example, you maybe allowed on if you remove and tie up your wheels.

Someone said a few weeks back that if your bike is in a bike bag, then they cant refuse you, as that is luggage - s that may be worth a try. Particularly on the Wexford line, where you may not e allowed to bring a bike on (in its usable form).

Me and my OH were trying to bring our bikes on the Dublin-Rosslare train last month and were told we weren't allowed. They suggested the bus instead (leave our bikes in the luggage compartment for any id1ot to chuck their big heavy bags onto and buckle our wheels?! - no thanks!) so we dropped them home instead. They were pretty strict about it with us but the bike bag actually sounds like a good idea. Let us know how you get on, we're hoping to try again in a few weeks!

I've put mine on plenty of buses and nothing ever happened to it. Only thing to worry about is if the bus picks up at the airport or students on a Sunday and Friday evening, otherwise people don't have that many big bags.
