I've to get an inscription on a Christening gift in oh, the next couple of hours!! I want it to say "Fáilte, Cholum. Le ghrá, Caoimhe." (Baby's name being Colum, mine being Caoimhe) But I'm not sure what the spelling is. Can someone PLEASE confirm where there should/should not be a 'h'??

    Thank you!!
    Caoimhe.

Fáilte a Cholum. Le grá, Caoimhe

    (I'm not 100% though)

I'm pretty sure that the standard Irish language spelling of the name is "Colm", rather than Colum. Based on that standard version, the spelling to use when addressing him would be "a Choilm", which gives you the message "Fáilte, a Choilm. Le grá, Caoimhe."

But people use so many variations and the parents might want you to stick with the spelling you've used here, i.e. "Colum". This might give you "Fáilte, a Choluim. Le grá, Caoimhe" - but I'm not 100% sure about the spelling for this one, sorry!

    le grá.

No séimhiu on a consonant following the 'le'. That's the caighdeán anyway, le ghrá could be written in some dialects for all I know!
