On a related point, I noticed yesterday that HED are now using Ti spokes on the Ardennes Flamme Rouge.

Bad ideas never really die, they just hibernate.

I really don't care what my bikes are made of. I just wanna ride the damn things. I have carbon, alu and steel. I love them all equally, but in a slightly different way. Each has its use.

Indeed but it rarely happens without some warning, and it isn't necessarily fatal to the bike. You could heat that head lug, remove the broken tube and braze a new one in.

Wouldn't be worth doing for most bikes, obviously, and I doubt you'd find someone to do it in Ireland anyway, but I'd give it some thought if I broke a tube on my bike.
