Like the idea of gold/silver/bronze medals depending on your finishing time.
    Very tempted

if im not in dingle (which i might be) that weekend i might give this a go. reckon i might just nick in under 4hrs for a nice silver medal. need to get a bike rack for my car too, will add that one to the long 'i want' list. anyone know the course, any/many hills?

also i ve never cycled with a group before so what sort of etiquette do i need to know about?

Yes, a good idea. Might be up for this one.

Nice wee circuit and should be achieveable in under the 4 hours.

The tricky part comes between points G and H. That hill at Jenkinstown is a nice lung/leg buster. Goes for about 2km. After that it's just bumpy over the mountain to point I.

Tough enough hill alright, but its the only hilly section I can see on the entire course. So it shouldn't put anyone off. I'll be doing it. You can all call into my folks house for tea on the way round*.

    (*offer will not be validated.)

4 hours is perfect for me right now, so I'll probably be doing this.

I was just speaking to a friend the other day and I'll be hauling my ass up for this.

    I'm thinking about it.

But I took the liberty of plugging the data into bikeroutetoaster to see what the vertical profile was like:-

It looks interesting enough - but not as interesting as the bit that goes 50 odd metres below sea-level!

Is this different from the "Into the east" (border trek) cycle from Dundalk the same weekend?

No it's different to Border Trek.

I've never done one of these before so excuse the question, but if registration starts at 8-30 would it be possible to register and set off at 8-30?

I know things like marshalling and refreshments won't be organised, but it would greatly aid domestic harmony if I could head off and be back before lunch!

I'm training for the Ring of Kerry, I've never done a sportive, this looks perfect though, I'm tempted.

I might give it a go seeing as it's home turf for me.
    I'll bring the biscuits

Nah pretty much the same deal. a.k.a. Randonée. Says on the website that there will 'Refreshments before and during event.' Might head for a mixed grill in the Roma after.

Anything less than a gold medal will be embarassing for us.

Gotta check dates but I mat be in the same boat as you. May need to get in inder 3.5-4hrs and be home lunchtime-ish. If this is the case it will be Drive-Thru*

This looks cool, the idea of going for the sliver medal is very tempting.

Anyone heading up from Dublin that would be able to give a lift?

EDIT: Can give petrol money for this.

Just a pity it is on the same weekend as the Border Trek and it going from Dundalk as well

    Hmmm.... from the website:

The event is a test of endurance not a race

Then give a gold medal for an average speed of 30kph plus :)

    Awesome!
