    Hey all,

I was just wondering what is your opinions of Carrera bikes, particularly the ones in Halfords. Thinking of getting a road one, probably around €300-€400, but know very little about bikes. I'll mostly just be using it round the roads but I want something comfortable and easy to ride and maintain.

I'd just like to get your opinion of Carrera bikes in general, I've never really heard of them before and don't know anyone who has one.

Carrera bikes are good. They are quite well specced for the price, Id have no problem reccomending you one( I had a fury and currently have a banshee).

However Depending on what Halfords store you visit, you can either get a good one with staff that actually have a clue, or on the other hand a shop with staff that are clueless.

Which road bike are you after? , If you use the search function, Carrera bikes and halfords have been a regular bone of contention here.

Thats great news. It'd be the Halfords in Dundalk, Louth. Don't know what they're like in there in terms of expertise and stuff but I'm getting some tips on what to look out for in the bike from a mate anyway.

    Cheers people

OP, Carrera bikes are great. Halford's do not sell Carrera bikes, they use the name only.

    These are Carrera

That's interesting. So, essentially they are licensing the name?

Probably get shot for this - but why not nip up to Newry and get it there.

Had a Carrera Subway and it served me well before I passed it on to a family member who continues to use it without any hassle. The only thing I'd say about Halfords is to know what you want before you go in. If you go in looking for advice it mightn't work out too well!

Not even. Just took it

Halfords Carrera's are not real Carrera's, they are allowed to use the name but only after several court cases and a legal loophole.

Wow, thats crazy. Possibly dodged a bullet there. I do know some smaller bike shops in the area, suppose I might try there. Just worried I'll end up paying too much there.

Ok then, are the Halfords Carrera bikes any good? :D

Halfords carrera is what is being talked about. All carreras are great. Just ones you can get sub 1000, and the professional ones are mad money.

Halfords carreras are solid bikes for the money.

There's one guy in that shop (I think his name is Darren or something) and he seems to know what he's talking about.

I've never ridden one, but I believe they aren't bad when compared to similar models in the same price bracket.

OP it all depends on use. Is it a run around or something you want to train on?

I remember looking at them last time I was in there, they weigh a ton, but tbh not more than others for the same price. I reckon a bike from your lbs is your better bet but what do I know???

job done. Halfords it is. Besides, I won't be going mental on it or anything, just a spin some evenings and weekends. Haven't properly cycled in a few years, and it'll probably be raining most evenings too :pac:

Not train on, well, not really. I'm trying to lose a good bit of weight, started going to the gym 3/4 times a week and changed my diet. I was going to go for walks on days I don't go to the gym and gradually build that up to going for a run, but due to an accident a few years back walking and running tend to hurt if I go for too long. Everything else is grand, cross trainer, bike, rowing machine etc, nothing more than a bit of fatigue, but walking and running kills me.

Thats why I thought I'd cycle instead. Build up the muscles without the impact of running and walking, then gradually start walking a bit more.

Like I said, the bike would just be for a quick 30min-1hr spin round the area, not pushing myself too hard with it, just to compliment the work I do at the gym for days I don't go
