    Hey
I just finished out my first year of college. ( & by finished I mean I stopped going in & didn't do the end of year exams- so failed )
I really didn't like the course I was doing & have changed to do a completely different course for next year.
I recieved the grant for the year & am wondering if I can still reapply for it again next year for the new course?

any information will be greatly appreciated :)

Been through the grant thing and have to say I have the inclination to think you wouldn't get it for first year of course - can't remember exact details but I think there is something about how if you change you don't automatically get it...

To be honest mate the best thing you can do is talk to the council itself...everyone has a different view on this grant thing and at the end of the day the council will have the REAL say on whether you get it or not...phone them up!

    HI Protagonist

I don't think you will get the grant for a "repeat" first year ... even if its a new course, as they only fund ongoing education.

Therefore they have already funded your first year, (even though you did not complete it)

    But its worth the asking!

Best of luck with it and the new course!

    hey thanks for the replies.
I took your advice & rang up the county council & as I expected they do allow for a repeat on your first year grant as long as you change course.
( not matter whether you pass, fail or drop out of the year )
( this can only be done once )

Just thought I'd leave this comment here for anybody who was worrying about the same thing as me, cya

    Hi Protagonist,

I'm in the very same position as yourself, except I completed the year - took my exams and passed, but I really want to change courses.

I've never applied for any grant before, but conditions have changed in my household, and I may be elegible this year. When I read your post this morning I was delighted, thinking that if I was elegible, I'd get a grant for the whole 4 years of my new course...

But I was kindly informed by the county council that I would only be eligible for years 2,3 and 4 - does this sound right to you?

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    :(

well I don't really know much about the grant bar what I need to..
If that is the case it seems extremly stupid since your circumstances are almost exactly like mine except you didn't apply for a grant last year. I would of thought you could just apply like any normal first year... but I don't really know. If I were you I'd ring them again just to make sure, best of luck anyway.

    Yeah, will call in again.

    Cheers Protagonist!

Are you eligible for free fees because you dropped out of 1st year and are repeating?
