I started a pretty good thread on bus use a few weeks back.

So to take it further, if you're siting on your bus/luas/train on your way home do you offer your seat to the elderly?

    As always, poll is added

Do you give up your seat on public transport for elderly/disabled 100 votes

In answer to your question OP, no. But then again I usually sit at the back of the bus where the elderly dare not go.

I push old people out of seat so I can sit down.

They're nearly dead anyway, no use me using up energy I might need for my long life.

Why are you engaging in so much low level trolling lately?
You used to be such a good poster.
    Are you broken?

2009 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, first man to win the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay gold medals in world record time at the same Olympics, Usain Bolt has scoliosis of the spine. i bet he gives up his seat for little old ladies.

I'm distrustful towards the elderly on buses ever since an old man once thought I was an attractive girl and came on to me accordingly.

    Absolutely.

You get a better chance of lifting their wallet/purse when they try to sit down.

You'd ned to have a seat yourself before you can give it up for some old codger.

I do, i think its only right...

I AM the old codger on the bus-luas-dart-train-metro or whatever and I love to embarras youngsters into giving up their seats.
Leaning over them, wheezing, coughing, gasping for breath, mumbling, whincing at the gout and arthritic pain until they move their bag out of the way for me to sit down.
This is even more fun when thay are the only other passenger on the bus-luas-dart-train-metro or whatever.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Always give up a seat for pregnant women. the elderly or people with kids.

Elderly as in genuinely elderly, mind you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 881 ✭✭✭Chocoholic84

I do. It's common decency isn't it? To always let someone less able-bodied than you have a seat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,949 ✭✭✭✭IvyTheTerrible

I do. Also for pregant women or people with crutches or whatever.

I'm well able to stand and it's good manners.

I just let them sit on my lap.

No. I sit back, and say "ahh, this is soo comfortable."

I also like to run for no reason at all whenever I pass someone in a wheelchair - preferably up some steps.

I do, but I've been surprised at how often they refuse to take the seat.

There would appear to be a difference in what you percieve to be old and what they think of being old. Offering your chair to someone who is still in the 40's might seem to them to be a little condecending.
You should revise your 'Old Person' age upwards. :)

I am talking about old people: 60+ is what I consider old! I wouldn't give up my seat to a 40 year old unless they were disabled.

    I had guessed that.:)
I was trying to make the point that nobody likes to concider themselves old but I did so badly. I was attempting to imply that some people may be a tad offended put out at being concidered old enough to be offered a seat and will refuse to accept it.

I can understand that and that's fair enough.

Oh also, I give my seat to pregnant ladies but not old people. I dunno why.

Nah, they would need to be older than that for me to give up a seat, or at least look incredibly frail for their age. My granddad is 98 and would probably be offended if someone offered him a seat because they thought he was old, and he is far more mobile and capable of standing up on a bus than a lot of people half his age.

Agreed with description of old, I'd be mortified if I insulted someone by implying they were "old"!

That and if I'm sitting in an inside seat I'll be bold and do nothing - I'm not going to push past the person beside me and expect the OAP to do the same. I might move and say nothing, and then generally the OAP will take the free seat once the other person has moved in though.

    why should i ?

what difference does it make in the world if i stand and the other lazy git sits down ? pointless !!!
