I am looking into getting one of these, it will be used for nothing more demanding than document typing.

With this in mind, I will need something I can install office on - is it possible to do this via. external CD drives? Or is there some legal way to do it via. flash drive?

A .iso disk image would probably be the easiest way. Create an image of the disk you want to use, copy it to the mini 10 using a usb stick, and mount the image to a virtual drive.

    Thanks (I'm computer-special)

If I remember, its similar to what I did to install the red alert 2 download....?

Yeah, iso image would be easiest.

It's actually quite simple, you can use something like Magic ISO (which is free) to make an image of your MS Office CD/DVD and then mount it as a virtual drive to install it (after you've copied that iso file you've created to a flash drive).

If that's the route you want to go down (and I'd recommend it as the easiest one), download the program I've linked to and if you need hand-holding on the steps anyone here will probably be able to help you out.

Or just use an external DVD drive if you've one available to you.

edit: just checking, for some reason there's a "buy now" link on the magic iso webpage which makes me think it may not be free. Anyone got a free alternative?

Just share the cd/dvd drive on a PC with a drive and then install it via the network, simple and effective.

Office does not check to see if its on the orignal cd so just browse to the cd and right click - select all and the send to removable disk.

The space you will need will depend on the version of windows but around 600mb free on the stick should do.

    Option 2.

Download openoffice from www,openoffice.org just as good and ur not breaking the law!!:p

Or if it's just basic office stuff Open Office is freely downloadable and just as good. Company I work for switched from MS Office a few years ago (400 employees and a huge network) and never looked back plus everything is still compatible with MS.
