How do I know if there has being a judgement against me?

Hi all, new to this and first post so please forgive all my ignorance and if I am in wrong forum.

What I want to know is, i got a solicitor letter looking for money, which I didn't deny I owed but could not afford to pay. The letter noted a court date and that they would be seeking judgement on me for said amount plus usual fees etc.

I rang solicitor saying I could not only not afford to pay the sum but could not afford to defend it, even though I am not denying it and also had made other offers in lieu of p ayment which were rejected.

I was told by the solicitor they would go ahead and get the judgement against me anyways but there would still be time for me to pay back.

This was well over 2 months ago now and I have heard nothing since.

Is there anyway of finding out if in fact a judgment has been registered against me?
Should I not have being informed of same if there was?
and how long do these things usually take.

I'd appreciate any opinions on this matter!

Was it the District Court, Circuit Court or High Court?

    Hi NiallCork,
My dad's in exactly the same situation (except it's a Circuit Court Civil Bill). Did you ever find out the consequences of being unable to pay? Any details greatly appreciated.
    Best wishes,

The sheriff is the usual consequence with an order to seize goods etc.

You should phone the district court and ask them for the result of the case. You should also check with the Gardaí and make sure no warrants have been issued for you.

Not so sure why there is a need to check with the Gardai as it is a civil case however checking with the District Court is a sensible first step. A call to the other sides solicitors would in all probability then be in order i'd imagine as i fear you have not sent back the notice of intention to defend (basically putting your hand up and saying "is mise anseo" and i want to say something) and unfortunately given thePlaintiff the opportunity to apply for Judgment in the office, i.e. there will be no court date.

    good luck!
