    Hi all,

I wonder will google ever be able to supply accounts that are also seperated by the ".ie" or ".co.uk" portion of the address?

Basically, i think its possible to have a microsoft live account as johndoe@live.com and at the same time have a seperate account johndoe@live.ie. I know this because I was allowed to get myname@live.ie but I could not get myname@live.com

Would google ever do the same? Someone already has taken myname@gmail.com, but I would really like to get myname@gmail.ie

Any ideas? Or am I completely off the mark?

As things stand I think you can only get an @gmail.com account.

Whether that'll change is anyone's guess - a quick Google search is'nt showing any Google intention to implement 'geographical' email.

If you're after gmail functionality, and willing to spend a few bob each year ($10), you could always check if 'yourname' is available as a domain name, and then forward email to a 'background' gmail account.

eg: email sent to rip@cord.com could be forwarded to 'anyoldname@gmail.com', and the 'reply-to' address on the gmail account could be set to 'rip@cord.com'.

You could check godaddy.com for domain availability - they used to provide forwarding (without hosting) -confirm first yourself though that this is still the case.

    Anyway, just a thought.

Can you even get @gmail.com anymore - I thought it was @googlemail.com now?

There isnt really a gmail.ie anyway.

Still @gmail.com here. In the UK and Germany it's @googlemail.com although if you send to a person at either it will deliver. e.g. john@gmail.com and john@googlemail.com is the same address

I noticed earlier this week that google.ie now displays Google Mail in the shortcut bar instead of Gmail.
Google explain that they have a problem in the UK here, and in the UK and Germany here, but no mention of Ireland. Does anyone know if they're planning the same here?

if you want to now you can update to google apps which allows you to set up a gmail fully integrated with a custom domain name..
