A friend of mine has a howa custom in 270wsm. Very accurate and flat shooting in a short action. Starting to grow on me and I would prefer it to a 270win. Ammo choice could be a bit of a bugger though.

thats the problem with the round ammo choice and availability .also its more expensive

for the pluses there is minuses also ,i have never under jacked a a round in my life so the long action does not bother me and the few extra fps will make little or no difference.

The WSM series are nerdy rounds. They're fine for the science-obsessed target shooters for whom 100fps extra might make all the difference to staying in the right velocity ballpark at 1000 yards, but you'll never notice any improvement in practical terms when hunting. In any case, I've heard plenty of stories of those fat cases and sharp shoulders causing feeding issues, so more traditional cases offer a more reliable follow-up shot. Apart from the nerd factor, I don't see much reason to buy a .270 WSM over a .270 WIN or a 7mm WSM over a 7mm Rem Mag or anything else unless you really need the short case for a short action and target shooting.

I wouldn't sell my 308 for one or if I had a 270 it would make little sense to change, but if at zero one could choose and if the ammo selection where ok I would prefer the short action.
Then again.. for Ireland I think the 7-08 would be ideal, also short action.
