In movies and sit coms etc the honeymooners always get upgraded for flights and hotels.
    Does this work?
    Anyone tried it?
Getting married this summer want to milk it as much as possible!!!!

Nope. Doesnt happen anymore. As a matter of fact Singapore airlines for example has a policy against it. I already asked them about this.

A friend of ours went to get married in Vegas for their one year anniversary, when the bride called the airline the day before to make sure she could bring her dress on as hand luggage they were under the impression they were getting married for the first time and upgraded them to first class. Now it was about 5 years ago but it did haoppen for them, and they didnt ask!

For our honeymoon last year we went to a few different locations in Italy. As we were honeymooners, there was always a bottle of champagne waiting for us. Our travel agent organised this.

Many moons ago hubby and I were upgraded to first class on a flight to St Lucia from Heathrow. It came as a total surprise to both of us and was a never-to-be-forgotten experience! We were told afterwards that it was because we were both dressed very smartly and "looked" like first class passengers.

Best advice I can give is that if you are flying long-haul then dress smartly and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck and have a wonderful honeymoon - however you get there :)

It depends of the airline you are flying with.
It's always good to ring reservations before you go and ask them their policy, and if they could put a note for checking in your reservation, so maybe if there is space available and if the mood is good at the airport that day...
And yes absolutely: always look smart because most airlines won't allow jeans and runners in upper classes if you are stand by for them.
Same for your hotel: just ask, they might give you an upgrade on arrival (The Ritz in Paris will if space available)
If you don't ask, you certainly won't get.
I know KLM makes a gesture onboard, even if you're stuck in economy: by offering you a glass of bubbly and a Delpht House as a pressie. Well it's always nice to take! But your reservation needs to be documented beforehand so they can prepare.
    Happy days!

There's a rumour about the "twenty dollar trick" in Vegas, where you slip a $20 bill over to whoever's checking you in as you enquire about any complimentary upgrades which might be going.

There's apparently a pretty high success rate, particularly for honeymooners.

When I was booking hotels for our honeymoon I mentioned in the booking that we were on our honeymoon and if they could recommend anything special for us to do while staying at their hotel or in the Miami area.

When we arrived at check in we were upgraded to the penthouse without even asking!!

Tried the same stunt with the flights but got nowhere.

Some you win, some you lose! :)

I can vouch for the $20 trick, when checking in and they ask for a Credit card and your passport have a note folded and ask "are there any complimentary upgrades available?", I do this everytime I go to the States and it works every time, although if I'm staying for a week I'll slip a 50

Just curious, (it would be my luck:rolleyes:) what would you do/say if they said "no"?

Wouldn't be just your luck. Actually happens quite a lot in the States. People aren't nearly as interested in the quick buck as we're often led to believe here. Many businesses penalise staff if found to be accepting things like that so frankly I don't think people should be putting them in that position.
